Multilingual eLearning for Agro-Industrial Company, Boortmalt

How Day One created multilingual elearning for global agro-industrial leader Boortmalt to improve employee review processes across their European operations.

Employee Reviews to Support Growth

Boortmalt is one of the world’s leading malt producers, supplying the brewing, distilling, and food industries. With over 3,000 employees operating across multiple countries, the organisation continues to modernise and strengthen its position within global agriculture – an industry constantly shaped by changing trade patterns, climate challenges, and shifting market demands.

To sustain growth and performance, Boortmalt wanted to ensure that every employee review reflected its culture of collaboration, accountability, and development.

Employee review process training for Boortmalt

The challenge

As a global organisation with sites across Europe, Africa, and beyond, Boortmalt faced the ongoing challenge of ensuring consistent messaging and process alignment across multiple languages and locations.

Their Learning & Development team was small and operating under tight time constraints during a period of significant company growth. They needed an outsourced partner who could deliver a high-quality, multilingual learning solution at pace – and one that would make the employee review process both engaging and practical.

“We needed training that blended theory with application and could be quickly translated into multiple languages to support the start of our review period.”

Why Boortmalt chose Day One

Boortmalt partnered with Day One for their quick response times, flexible approach, and proven ability to make “dry” information relatable. Day One’s creative yet pragmatic style ensured the training was not only delivered on time but also aligned perfectly with Boortmalt’s organisational culture and global communication needs.

The solution

Day One developed an interactive, character-driven simulation to guide managers and team members through Boortmalt’s review process.

Learners were introduced to a fictional team member whose performance they would assess. Through interactive interviews and scenarios, users completed the review form based on real-world considerations, applying company values and feedback principles in context.

This immersive approach turned what could have been a procedural task into an engaging, hands-on learning experience – reinforcing both the how and why of effective employee reviews.

To ensure accessibility across Boortmalt’s international workforce, the course was delivered in four languages: English, French, Spanish, and Flemish.

“The character-led approach made the process feel real and relevant. It helped bring company values to life through everyday workplace decisions.”

The results

The elearning programme received excellent feedback from both HR leaders and learners. By combining storytelling with simulation, it delivered strong engagement and ensured a consistent understanding of the review process across Boortmalt’s global workforce.

“The work you have done has made a great impression. What especially inspired us was your use of avatars and characters, and that you understood our values and behaviours.”
Kevin Coppieters, Group HR Development Manager, Boortmalt

The module’s success demonstrated that even complex HR processes can be made interactive, memorable, and scalable when delivered through thoughtful design and localisation.
