David Price, Head of Design at Day One Technologies, reflects on the Memcom Awards 2025 that he attended with our elearning client – Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine (FPM). For their Managing Respiratory Diseases elearning programme, FPM were nominated for the Best Education Initiative category.
Going to the Memcom Awards ceremony this year was a great experience, and it definitely felt different from many other events I’ve attended. Rather than being a formal dinner focused on winners and speeches, it was much more about celebrating professional achievement and innovation across the entire membership and association sector, which I really liked.

What stood out most to me was the huge range of professional excellence on show. Listening to the finalists made it clear how committed organisations across different fields – from professional bodies to trade unions – are to creating learning, engagement, and strategic projects that genuinely deliver. It showed that the best initiatives, like ours, aren’t just about one sector, such as healthcare; they’re about finding smart, new ways to engage professionals across the whole membership community and demonstrate real impact.
Making learning flexible and easy to access for members was a big focus across all categories, which really resonated with me. I learnt a lot about how leading professional bodies and trade associations are using innovation to tackle their specific sector challenges – whether that’s through technology, strategy, or education.
It really reinforced something I’ve always believed: high-quality elearning is far more than just a training tool. It’s a crucial strategic asset for any membership organisation. It’s the quickest and most effective way to get current, practical knowledge – like the skills needed for managing respiratory viruses – out to busy members, ensuring they stay highly skilled and their organisation remains a thought leader in its field.
Best Education Initiative Category
FPM entered their Managing Respiratory Diseases elearning programme for the Best Education Initiative 2025 category because it directly tackles a major, ongoing public health need, one that emerged from lessons learnt during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Back in early 2022, FPM used its standing as a standard-setting body to bring together experts from government, regulators, universities, and industry to discuss the best use of COVID-19 treatments. This process highlighted a clear gap: healthcare professionals needed stronger knowledge and skills in managing viral respiratory diseases.
In response, FPM developed the Managing Respiratory Diseases eLearning programme in 2023/24 – a strategic project designed to:
- Address knowledge gaps regarding respiratory viruses, their treatment, and public health impact.
- Equip professionals with up-to-date expertise on managing viral respiratory conditions.
- Strengthen the link between medical science, regulation, and patient-centred care.
The award celebrates educational products that make a measurable impact through innovation, creativity, and engagement. FPM’s programme met those criteria perfectly – transforming urgent pandemic learnings into a flexible, practical, and much-needed eLearning solution for professionals in pharmaceutical medicine and healthcare.
I attended the event with a fantastic team from FPM:
- Dr Marcia Philbin, Chief Executive
- Will Booth, Deputy Chief Executive
- Amy Woodward, Digital Education Manager
- Will Strange, Head of Marketing
- Jocelyn Richards, Project Co-ordinator
There were six entries in our category, and although the award went to the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, it was an honour to be part of such an inspiring shortlist that showcased the power of education and innovation in the membership world.
