Digital learning, particularly through eLearning platforms, is a key performer for professional development. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in eLearning is changing the way businesses train their employees as well as how we as L&D providers design and deliver content.
In a recent talk on AI at The Learning Technologies Autumn Forum, the brilliant Egle Vinauskait discussed ways in which L&D practitioners can adopt these tools to help make better experiences for our learners and clients.
We wanted to share these thoughts in a blog post and to also highlight how we have been using AI so far and our plans to extend this knowledge further.
We don’t often get detailed profiles of our learning content end users, or their pain points, but by using AI we can create learner personas that give us insight into the learners the content is aimed at. It can include any content elements they typically struggle with (knowledge or skills gaps) and also what they care about.
AI has the ability to look at any constraints there may be with the content, and give us ideas of how to understand our end users better.
2. Strategy and Design
Have you ever hit a creative wall and can’t think of a well crafted idea for your next piece of content or learning activity?
Egle described using AI tools as a “sparring partner”.
Give AI a description of what you want to do and ask how you could explain it; you could even ask it to provide case studies or scenario examples to illustrate your points further.
How could AI shape feedback?
Move away from multiple choice questions that lead users through to the correct answer and instead use AI to generate personalised feedback to whatever the user inputs.
This is something we are looking into here at Day One, we feel it will create an extra layer of personalisation to our bespoke learning pieces.
You can feed AI with a document and it can simplify a technical piece of writing, rewrite content for different expertise in a business, extract insights, prioritise content or even rewrite content based on job role. All really useful when the content needs to be delivered across multiple layers of a business.
ChatGPT and Midjourney: Revolutionising Content Creation
The main message we got from Egle was to think about the constraints we come up against when developing content or getting information and look at how AI can solve it.
At Day One we are adopting cutting-edge AI tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney to help us transform content creation.
As you may know ChatGPT is a large language model from OpenAI that can generate and precis text, translate languages, write different kinds of creative content, and answer your questions in an informative way. We are using ChatGPT to generate personalised learning content for our clients, based on their specific needs and goals.
For example, we can use ChatGPT to create:
- Personalised learning paths that adapt to the learner’s progress and performance
- Interactive simulations and scenarios that allow learners to practice their skills in a safe environment
- Customised feedback and support for learners who are struggling with specific concepts
- Translate content for global clients quickly and efficiently so that the content can be shared across a wider audience seamlessly.
Midjourney is a text-to-image AI tool that can generate realistic and creative images from text descriptions. We are using Midjourney to create immersive learning content for our clients, such as:
- Interactive infographics and diagrams that explain complex concepts in a visually appealing way
- Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) experiences that allow learners to explore and interact with learning content in a realistic environment
- Gamified learning experiences that motivate learners to progress and achieve their goals
There is so much information around about the integration of AI in learning for businesses. It is not just a trend; it is a transformative technology that is reshaping the way learners acquire and apply new skills.
AI is helping us to create bespoke elearning content that is more personalised, engaging, and effective than ever before. By using AI tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney, we can create learning content that is even more tailored to the specific needs and goals of our clients, and which delivers a truly immersive learning experience.
We are excited about the potential of AI to transform the eLearning industry, and we are committed to using AI tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney to create the best possible learning experiences for our clients.
We are always evolving and looking at new and exciting ways to develop our content to make it the best experience for our clients and their learners, we are experimenting on how to create more personalised experiences within our eLearning authoring tools as well as expanding our use of other tools to build on the look and feel of our learning.
